Amazon

We traveled to the Brazilian Amazon six different times with the New York Botanical Gardens, trips organized and led by Scott Mori, Tropical Botanist, and his wife Carol Gracie, photographer.  All the trips were with Moacir Fortes, Amazonia Expeditions (tours are now with Moacir Fortes, Jr).  We flew into Manaus, boarded one of his boats and began a 10 day adventure along two of the rivers of the Amazon rainforest. the Solomon’s (becomes the Amazon) and the Rio Negro.  Manaus is on the Rio Negro shortly north of where the Rio Negro joins the Rio Solomoes and then the two become the Rio Amazonas.  Because of color and temperature difference, the two rivers flow side by side slowly merging into one color, that of the Rio Amazonas.
